Biography

MaryEllen SchoemanMaryEllen comes to Animal Advocates with a wealth of experience in wildlife issues. She is an International Wildlife Rehabilitator's Council-certified wildlife rehabilitator, and is certified in animal first aid and CPR.

Her experience includes being a field agent for the American Humane Association Film and TV Unit and a manager for a low-cost spay and neuter program at Pasadena Humane Society.

A native of Maine, MaryEllen's passion for wildlife has taken her around the globe. She volunteered at Cheetah Outreach, working with cheetahs and servals in South Africa, and rehabilitated and released animals seized from the illegal pet trade at a facility in South America. She also participated in a Bureau of Land Management census and study of bat populations in the Mojave Desert, as well as various research studies at the Los Angeles Zoo.

Locally, she volunteers for several wildlife education facilities, including Wild Wonders in Bonsall, Wildlife Learning Center in Sylmar, and Sierra Endangered Cat Haven in Dunlap.

In addition to her wildlife experience, MaryEllen is also employed by Big Sky Dogs as a professional dog-walker and pet-sitter.

MaryEllen is a graduate of Occidental College, Hollywood Animals Exotic Animal Handling School and the Humane Law Academy.
